THE BOUNTY OF OUR UNION

The sun set the sky ablaze

In the silent dawn

Before spilling golden light

Through the window

Illuminating the room

Disturbing my slumber.

Through sleep filled eyes

I gaze at the window,

And on the sill

Framed in the sunlight

There sits the bounty of our union

Her golden curls aflame

In the morning sun

Smiling that familiar

Heart melting smile

But that time it was heartbreaking

Because it was a smile

I would never see again

On the face of my daughter

In earthly form

CHILD OF NATURE

She was a child of nature

The most special one

With a smile as warm

As the summer sun

Yet fragile and delicate

Like an early bloom in spring

Bright as a shaft of sunlight

Illuminating the gloom

Spectacular and exiting

As the days first dawning

Yet simple and refreshing

As a clear winter morning

Tempestuous and wild, like

An autumn gale blowing

The most special one

She was a child of nature

SHE’S LEAVING

I suppress the sunshine, she says

And bring her nothing but rain

Now I’m begging her not to leave

But I know that it is in vain

And I know that if I let her go,

Although that would ease her pain,

I am full of fear of saying goodbye

In case we will never meet again

A FIRST KISS

A first kiss,

Nervous, anxious,

When tentative

And hesitant lips

Lacking confidence

Needing conviction

Miss their mark

And teeth collide

WHEN DID THE LOVE DIE

When did the love die?

At what moment did it turn

It was that, once too often,

Hint of ardours odour upon her

The smell of another man

On her clothes, her skin, her hair,

That made him snap

Making him lose control

And strike her down

Snuffing out the life

Of his unfaithful wife

EVERYTHING BUT A POSSESSION TO ME

My partner and lover

My significant other

My best friend and gal

My confidante and pal

The love of my life

Happily, you’re my wife

THE “LOVE” WORD

Love,

Is just a word

Such a small word

Often misused

A throw away word

Used as a panacea

To paper over the cracks

Tell someone “I love you”

And everything is expected

To be forgiven

But love

Is too small a word

For what I feel

Far too small

For what I want to express

As the love I feel

Is immeasurable, infinite

In its depth, its quality

It’s all encompassing nature

It colours everything

All I say, all I do

Yet to express my feelings

All I can say is

“I love you”

It’s just so inadequate.

For what I want to express

My need for you

Of never being parted from you

To be joined forever

In every way

But I don’t have the word

To articulate it

I don’t have the vocabulary

I just have

Love
