In the Village of Pepperstock Green – Chapter (108) – New Uniform

October

The Old Grange stands to the north of Pepperstock Green and had survived from the 17th century and it was the home of William and Mary Farnham.

The next generation of the family lived in Abbottsford but the Farnham and the Laslett families, holidayed every summer at the Grange as well as all the significant holidays during the year.

Bernie and Pamela Farnham and their sons Stuart and Cary, Pamela’s sister Cora Laslett and husband Alfie and their daughters Katrina and Elise, all stayed with William and Mary, and the house was perfectly placed for access to the Pepperstock Hills National Park.

Cary Farnham was a twenty-nine-year-old solicitor who now lived in the old family home in Pepperstock Green following the death of his grandparents, and he had it pretty much to himself as his parents were now retired and spent most of their time travelling and his brother Stuart was working for a magazine in New York.

On one family holiday ten years earlier, Cary, who was a few weeks short of his nineteenth birthday, at the time, was seduced by his cousin Katrina who was just sixteen, for the first of many enjoyable occasions.

Cary and Katrina were what is known as “friends with benefits” which was a mutually satisfactory arrangement.

One Wednesday he was working from home, and he got up early and emailed the documents he had been working on the night before and then had a leisurely breakfast.

It was just before 10 o’clock when Katrina walked through the front door and called.

“Hi cuz,”

“Hi Katrina” he responded, “I’m in the kitchen”.

When she walked into the kitchen, she was dressed in a dark blue uniform that he hadn’t seen before.

“What’s this then, new uniform?” he asked.

“New job” she replied proudly and gave him a twirl “Ward sister at the Pepperstock and District”.

“Well done” he said and hugged her,

Her uniform was all crisp and new and still had that fresh laundered smell.

“Do you have time for an inappropriate celebration?” he asked hopefully.

“Why do you think I’m here?” she replied and then kissed him.

“Where would you like it, Sister?” he asked between kisses.

“Here will suffice I don’t want to be late for my new job” she replied.

“Just don’t get anything nasty on my new uniform”.

In the Village of Pepperstock Green – Chapter (107) – Alone with Jenifer Eldridge

September

On the southern outskirts of Pepperstock Green was the cottage where Nick Britz lived.

It was a lovely late summer morning, and Nick was just doing a bit of housework around the cottage, when there was a knock on the French window, so he stopped what he was doing.

However, when he looked, Nick couldn’t see anyone, not at first but on closer perusal he could see it was Jenifer Eldridge.

She was wearing knee length blue shorts, tight like leggings, and a kind of short floral summer dress, scooped down at the front, fitted at the waist and just about long enough to cover her bum.
“Hello” he said opening the door

“Where’s your buddy?”

Her “buddy” was Kim Brandt, her best friend, inseparable since kindergarten, which was a perfect friendship, as they complimented each other.

Although there were similarities, they were both attractive for a start, their likes and dislikes, and their sense of humour, but really as individuals they couldn’t be more different.

Jenifer was a brunette, dark complexion and had no fear, Jackie on the other hand was a strawberry blonde, pale and freckly and would tremble in shadows.

Jen was an extrovert, precocious, a real Lolita, very confident, self-assured, and pretty, and she knew it, though not in a cocky way.

Kim on the other hand, though also very pretty, was unsure of it.

She was shy and socially awkward and lacked self-confidence

Being with Jenifer made Kim feel more confident, daring to do things she would never do alone, so she lived her life on her friend’s coat tails and without Jenifer, she floundered.

“She’s at her Gran’s funeral,” Jenifer answered

“Ah yes” he responded “I forgot”

To be honest, he wasn’t really bothered where Jackie was, he was just happy to have Jenifer all to himself for a change.

The girls were both in their final year at Abbottsford University and worked at the Britz Coffee Shop which was owned and run by Nick.

“Not that I’m not glad to see you, but how come you’re here so early” he said

“I thought you were on this afternoon”

“I am, but I’m on a split shift today”

“Covering for India” she said in response to his raised eyebrow “I’ve come straight from the shop, so I was wondering if you minded me hanging around here for a bit, because by the time I get home it’ll be time to turn around and head back again, then we could walk to the shop together”

“Sure, no problem” he replied flatly but inside he was doing cartwheels.

Jenifer Eldridge wasn’t just a pretty girl who worked for him, she was also the girl he loved, not that he’d ever told her how he felt.

He knew she was out of his league, by some distance, she was lovely, and he was just ordinary looking, so it was a real mismatch even if she wasn’t his employee and 4 years younger.

Though he would soon have to love her from afar when she finished Uni and made her way in the world, but for a few hours that day she was his and his alone.

They sat and chatted on the Patio for a little while before she asked

“Could I have a drink?”

“Of course, I’m so sorry, I should have offered” he flustered

“It’s ok” she responded and chuckled as she walked past him towards the kitchen, and because she was a foot shorter than him, he could easily look down her top at her beautiful breasts encased within lace trimmed satin cups, what he was unaware of was that she knew he was looking, and she liked it.

Nick flicked the kettle on to make a hot drink, but she asked

“Can I have a glass of water?”

“Of course, help yourself”

“Ok, I think I will” she said inside her head

The glasses were in the top cupboard and being only five foot one she had to stand on tiptoe to reach the glass, and the act of stretching up her arm, raised the hem of her skirt to expose the curves of her perfect little cheeks in her skin tight shorts.
When she had retrieved a glass she turned and looked at him.
“Were you staring at my bum?” she asked accusingly
“Yes” he confessed “sorry”
“You’re a terrible letch,” Jenifer said “I saw you staring down my top at my boobs earlier”
“Well I’m actually a very good letch” he corrected her

“Don’t you like me looking?”
“Of course I do” she said and blushed and then she walked across the kitchen and said

“I would like you touching me better though”
And then she stood on tiptoe to reach up and kiss him and showed that she didn’t care if he was just ordinary looking, or her boss, or four years older, she just wanted him in her league.

In the Village of Pepperstock Green – Chapter (106) – Wistful September

September

July 1st marked the official reincarnation of the former St Adelaide’s Convent with the opening of the St Adelaide’s Reflection and Healing Retreat, although it wasn’t expected to be fully up and running until the beginning of August.

Over the month prior to its opening new employees came on board and one of them was Craig James who was taken on as one of the gardening team.

His main duties were the kitchen gardens, but he spent just as much time in the greenhouses, particularly in the evenings because that was when he often ran into Angela Lewis, one of the kitchen staff, and that always made his day.

He saw her the first time back in May, when they were both at the convent for their interviews, and it was love at first sight, but by the time September came around he still hadn’t asked her out, and he was fast running out of time.

On Friday he was running late and was just in time to see Angela and her and the head of St Adelaide’s, Toddy Phelps walking towards the Greenhouses.

The two women smiled to each other and shared a look before they split up.

“Hello Craig” she said and gave him a beaming smile.

“Hi Angela, it’s a lovely evening, isn’t it?” he responded and returned her smile.

“Yes, we had better make the most of it” she said, “the Summer is nearly over”.

“Indeed” he agreed wistfully.

“So, you had better hurry up and ask me out, so we can spend the autumn evenings together” she said.

“Would you like too?” he asked.

“Oh Craig, of course I would” she replied and put her arm through his.

In the Village of Pepperstock Green – Chapter (105) – Warned Off

September

Cary and Katrina were what is known as “friends with benefits” which was a mutually satisfactory arrangement, however there was an occasion in late summer when Katrina and her younger sister Elise were both staying with Cary for the week as there was a family wedding in the Laslett Family.

Elise was four years younger than her sister and was an absolute stunner with a lovely figure and bigger breasts even than Katrina.

But he was under strict instructions from Katrina not to even look at Elise in a sexual way and if he did, he would be castrated.

Katrina was a nurse at the Pepperstock and District Hospital in Pipershaven so was more than capable of following through with her threat.

However, halfway through the week she was on late shift so for the first time Cary was going to be in the house alone with Elise so to be on the safe side he decided to go out for the evening.

Cary had a shower and shave and was preparing to spend the evening at the pub to catch up with the latest gossip and hopefully find something to distract him from his lustful thoughts, when he remembered he had left his aftershave in the main bathroom.

Cary had been using the ensuite in his room since the girls had arrived to give them some privacy.

So, he walked across the landing wearing a towel and without hesitating entered the main bathroom and walked to the sink.

He found his aftershave amongst all the feminine lotions, potions and powders that had appeared on the shelf and was just turning to leave as Elise stepped naked from the shower, with water dripping from her rosebud nipples and running down her beautiful firm young body.

She was beautiful like her sister but taller with long shapely legs, but the biggest differences were the greater size of her breasts.

Cary stood staring at Elise’s magnificent body for far longer than he should have but he struggled to draw his eyes away.

Elise just smiled before walking towards him.

“I’m…” he started to say but she put a finger up to her lips gesturing him to silence before loosening his towel and said.

“This will suffice by way of an apology.”

“I’ve wanted to do that since I was 12” Elise said as she rolled off him and there, they lay exhausted and spent for an indeterminate period.

Then he looked at her and said

“Was that worth waiting 10 years for”?

“Oh God yes” she replied still panting then a few moments later she asked.

“Am I as good as Katrina?”

“How would I know” he replied.

“Because you’ve been shagging her since she was sixteen” she said.

“I don’t know what you mean” he said defensively.

“Oh yes you do” she chuckled.

“How did you know?” he conceded.

“Because I’m neither deaf nor blind” she said.

“Did you see us then?” he asked.

“Yes, you were asleep in her bed when we returned from a trip to Sharpington” she explained “and I’ve heard you, numerous times at the house, and several times this week, you’re not exactly quiet”.

“Oh” he said, “I thought we’d been quite restrained”.

“Restrained?” she said mockingly.

“Does anyone else know?” he asked.

“If they do, they didn’t get it from me” she said.

“What about Katrina?” he asked.

“What about her?”

“Does she know that you know?” he asked.

“I’ve never told her” Elise said.

“Oh God” he exclaimed.

“What’s the matter?” she asked.

“Katrina” he said.

“What about her?”

“She threatened to castrate me just for looking at you” he said.

“Oh dear” she chuckled.

“God knows what she would do if she found out what we just did”.

He said and turned pale which caused her to laugh.

“Why will she find out?” she asked.

“Because….” He began and left the rest unsaid.

“Well, I’m not going to tell her that I just had sex with my cousin who I’ve fancied since I was 12” Elise corrected him in a rather superior tone.

“And I’m not looking to replace her; I have a boyfriend.”

“Ok” he said reassured.

“That doesn’t mean I wouldn’t like to do it with you again sometime.”

She said.

“It’s rather exciting sneaking around and shagging my sister’s bed buddy”.

“So, when did you have in mind?” he asked.

“Oh, I think when the opportunity arises” she replied.

“I see” he said and looking down he added.

“I think an opportunity has arisen already”.

“Eh?”

Cary just pointed in response to her exclamation and asked.

“Do you want to do it again or not?”

“Oh God yes” She replied.

Suffice is to say he didn’t make it to the pub that memorable Wednesday night and his itch was well and truly scratched by Elise and they repeated the experience on the following night when Katrina was working late again.

In the Village of Pepperstock Green – Chapter (104) – The Fancy Dress Party

September

At end of September there was a fancy dress ball at the Barnabus Manor Hotel and there was a large group of guests attending the occasion from St Adelaide’s Reflection and Healing Retreat and among them was Sous Chef Madelaine Colgate.

The party was in full swing when she arrived, she’d been to visit her sick mother in hospital and then she had car trouble, so she was much later than she’d anticipated and after stopping at home first to get into her costume she was very, very late.

But she knew he wouldn’t be angry when he saw her in her costume because even she thought she looked gorgeous dressed as Vestal Virgin.

But despite how good she looked when Maddie walked into the Hotel ballroom it appeared that she was not only arriving late, but she was also too late to save her engagement as she found her fiancé Bob otherwise engaged in a very passionate kiss with her best friend Angela.

If Maddie had been surprised by what greeted her in the Ballroom when Spiderman was kissing Marilyn Monroe, it was nothing compared to Spiderman’s surprise when Maddie kicked him in his spidie testicles and there was definitely a look of surprise on Angela’s face a split second after Maddie slapped it.

Leaving Bob doubled up on the floor unable to speak and Angela with a scarlet handprint on her face, Maddie stormed out of the hall like a Goddess with her Roman cloak and flaming red hair streaming behind her.

Madeleine left the ballroom at speed and rushed out through reception and went out through the front entrance like a heat seeking missile and shot straight down the steps and out into the car park without stopping and ran straight into Marcus Worthington, who was late arrival himself and was at that moment lost in thought as he walked the other way and after the collision they both ended up in a heap on the floor.

“Why don’t you look where you’re going you bloody idiot” she screamed, followed by a string of expletives.

Marcus totally ignored Maddie’s angry remarks and chose instead to consider, as he looked at the striking red head in the red cloak, what had upset her.

“Are you ok?” he asked with concern and with an appraising eye.

She looked confused at first, because she had been very rude to him and he was being nice in return, and then she opened her mouth to launch another tirade of abuse at him but dissolved into tears instead.

Marcus then took her in his arms and comforted her while she cried her pitiful tears as they sat in the darkness on the tarmac of the car park.

After five minutes or more he helped her to her feet and with his arm around her shoulder he said

“Come inside and get warm.”

“Ok” she responded meekly as she continued to sob and dribbled on his cloak sleeve as he guided her.

Vestal Virgin and the Centurian sat in a quiet corner of the hotel bar warmed by brandy and the glow of kindred spirits, he listened intently as she spoke of her sadness and reason for her rage, and as he in turn spoke words of comfort to her in return, and their hearts became inexorably entwined.

In the Village of Pepperstock Green – Chapter (103) – Filled with Dread

September

Sadie Grassman was a very successful chef, and she was well respected by fellow professionals and was highly regarded by everyone who knew her, but her success didn’t extend to her personal life, she may have had the Midas touch in the kitchen, but she was more like Medusa in the romance department.

She was living in Pipershaven with her family when her career took off, which began in a very small way when she was still at college in Abbottsford.

It all started when one of her teachers, a kindred spirit Jane Donald, who employed her as sous chef in her home dining enterprise.

Jane felt an affinity with Sadie because she was doing the same college course at the same college that Jane had, and at the same time her love life was also a total disaster.

Sadie’s bad luck in love continued after she left college and got a restaurant job under Jane’s uncle at his own restaurant where she fell heavily for a gorgeous waiter, who alas turned out to be gay.

And that was the crux of her problem, she kept falling in love with the wrong guys.

After three years at the Faustino’s in Abbottsford, Jane Donald asked her to join her at La Florenza in Purplemere and after two years of that Sadie became Chef in residence after Jane fell pregnant.

The only downside being that she had her heart broken in twice over the next two years before she decided to strike out on her own and got the job of head chef at the Pheasant in Quarry Hill.

After having her heart broken once too often Sadie finally swore herself off men, which she managed to keep to for more than five years before cupid struck again.

It was while she was at the Pheasant that she first met Charlie and Toddy Phelps, although they weren’t married at that point.

The Phelps became regular patrons and when the retreat became a reality they approached Sadie to be their Chef de Cuisine at St Adelaide’s Reflection and Healing Retreat.

She wasn’t sure at first but like many people before her she found it really difficult to say no to Toddy.

When she moved to the Retreat in Pepperstock Green at the end of May to take up her new position she wasn’t looking for love.

She was there to evaluate the kitchens, and produce a list of equipment she required, so she could do what she did best, cooking.

Sadie also had the responsibility to interview and employ her own staff, she had already put out feelers among the staff she had worked with in the past and Toddy had invited applications herself, but the final choice was down to Sadie.

As Sadie was head Chef she was entitled to one of the staff cottages located on the other side of the River by Carpenters Farm and had only been in the Cottage for two weeks when she met and fell for one of the maintenance team, Tom Webb.

It took her completely by surprise in several ways, firstly she wasn’t looking for anyone and she had her feelings locked squarely away, but most of all he wasn’t her type in any way shape or form.

He was older than her for a start, quietly spoken, socially awkward, nervy and a bit gawky looking to boot.

Tom for his part found himself attracted to her as well, despite the fact she was loud, feisty, and outspoken, and very much not the type of woman he was looking for, but the heart wants what the heart wants, and his heart wanted her.

As it turned out they weren’t the only ones to think Sadie and Tom were mismatched, but despite the misgivings of all concerned they soon found themselves going out together and then confounded the sceptics by becoming an inseparable couple.

And all was going well but at the back of Sadie’s mind was the fear that it would all go wrong, bound to go wrong, because her relationship always went wrong.

All her adult life she had failed in the art of love, every time she would fall for someone in a breathless passion, she would suffer the hoppy skippy heart when she looked at him, and feel that desperate longing when they were apart, and she would give herself completely, only for it all to fall apart.

Year after year, several times a year, she found herself falling again, helpless to resist, in fact it was like reliving a bad dream when she was forced to make the same mistakes over and over again.

However, she managed to break the cycle, after having her heart broken once too often and managed to keep love at bay for more than five years before she fell for Tom.

Sadie had her reservations about dipping her toe in the water but after they had been going out together for the best part of three months she began to lower her guard, and that was when she started to hear the rumours which left her cold.

There were some in the kitchen who delighted in the fact that they could bring bad news to her door but there were many others who only had her welfare at heart and sought to comfort her.

But no matter how many positives she heard from friends and staff she only remembered the negatives.

That was because the rumour that she kept hearing was that Tom was not going to be part of the maintenance for very much longer and what gave credence to the rumour in Sadie’s mind was the fact that Tom had been quieter than normal and was clearly distracted, so she feared the worst.

Everything came to a head on the 2nd of September when she was in the kitchen at the Retreat prepping for lunch with her Sous Chef Madelaine Colgate when he knocked on the door.

This just in itself threw Sadie into a blind panic and seeing her reaction Madelaine made herself scarce.

The reason Sadie was so fearful was that he never visited her before lunch because he knew how busy she was.

Sadie’s sense of foreboding was like the day signified the end of one chapter and beginning of another, with particular emphasis on “the end” and in her case “the end” meant having her heart broken.

She took a deep breath summoned up a smile and opened the door.

“Hello hon” she said, “this is a nice surprise.”

He walked past her without speaking and he was wearing a grave expression, which quickly removed the smile from her own face.

He sat down at the table, and she joined him.

“Sadie! I need to say something” he said abruptly.

“Oh God you’re leaving the retreat” she snapped.

“And you’re breaking up with me.”

“No” he said impatiently.

“What part?” she asked.

“What?”

“What part is no?” Sadie asked, “the leaving or the dumping.”

“Neither” he replied, “I mean both.”

“Then I don’t understand what’s happening, you come here wearing the face of doom saying you need to say something, there are rumours flying around the village about changes at the Retreat and you have been very distracted lately and I don’t know what’s going on, so if you’re not leaving the Retreat and you’re not dumping me, what then?”

“Sadie Grassman, will you please stop talking long enough for me to ask you to marry me” Tom said.

“What?” she exclaimed.

“Will you marry me?” he asked,

“So, you’re staying?” she quizzed “at St Adelaide’s.”

“Yes” he confirmed “I’m to be head of maintenance.”

“So, it’s the Vicar who is leaving?” she mused.

“Yes, to pastures new” he said.

“Wow that’s a relief” Sadie exclaimed and sighed.

“So?” he said.

“So, what?”

“The marriage thing?” he pointed out and only got a blank look and silence until she screamed and threw her arms around his neck.

“Yes, Yes, and Yes” she said punctuating each affirmative with a kiss.

“Of course, I’ll marry you.”

In the Village of Pepperstock Green – Chapter (102) – Love at the Penny Pool

August

In late August Warren Gulley arrived at the St Adelaide’s Reflection and Healing Retreat because three months earlier the bottom fell out of his world when his wife of fifty years passed away.

He had been driven there by his eldest son for residential bereavement counselling, involving inpatient care and a structured therapy program offering psychological support for his abject grief and the effects on his mental health.

He chose St Adelaide’s because it was recommended by someone, he worked with who had been there, and he spoke very highly of the head of the retreat, Toddy Phelps.

During the “one to one” sessions he revealed the story of when he was growing up in Purplemere during the sixties and one of the things he really loved to do was to go swimming and they were quite well fixed for pools in the area, and he would swim until the chlorinated water left his eyes red and sore.

But of all the pools he swam in, the one he loved to swim in most of all, especially during the summer months, was the Lido known to everyone as the Penny Pool.

It was only sixpence to get in and for that paltry sum you could stay all day long, which of course he did, and he would spend as many days of the school holidays there as he could, playing with friends and watching Mad Jack stunt diving off the high platform.

When he first started to go there it was just a joy to spend all the time in the sparkling water.

As he got older, he would come to appreciate the many delicacies on which to feast his eyes upon, delicacies invisible to the eye of the eleven-year-old boy who first visited the pool.

Whenever he arrived at the Lido there was always someone there that he knew, so even if he went on his own, he could quite easily hook up with someone.

Some of them he knew from school others from where he lived, and some were friends of friends.

Warren always took an old penny with him in the pool, and they would take turns diving down to retrieve it or a group of them would play tag, it was basically the same friends and the same games every visit.

On one particular day, when he was thirteen he went with a friend called Kenny and his cousin Steve and after spending about an hour diving for a coin in the deep end they sat on the side of the pool and watched the leathery-skinned Mad Jack perform one of his eccentric dives from the high board.

Almost before the ripples had subsided Kate Lester and her friend Linda ran up behind them and pushed Warren and Kenny in the pool and a chase ensued resulting in Kate and Linda being thrown in the 8-foot end and then being thoroughly dunked.

This was the normal exchange between the four of them and it had been the way of it since they were 1st years.

This time however when the four of them played tag it was different.

Warren eventually caught Kate after a long chase and during the ensuing grapple something happened that had never happened before during their horseplay, he got a hard on.

He didn’t know why; they had played that game hundreds of times before without as much as a tickle in his trunks.

His first reaction to the unwelcome intrusion was to let go of Kate and swim away, but the erection merely faded temporarily and as the game of tag continued it returned with a vengeance whenever he got in close proximity of Kate and that afternoon they seemed destined to be in close proximity most of the time.

After the third attempt at swimming away failed to diminish his woody, he abandoned the tactic.

Afterall holding onto Kate’s voluptuous form whilst sporting a boner was not an unpleasant experience and if she didn’t mind then he certainly didn’t.

He realized later that Kate was well aware of his discomfiture and made sure that she rubbed up against him at every opportunity.

Their clinches lasted much longer than normal, and Kate must have been aware of his erection prodding at her nether regions, but she was clearly not repulsed by it, in fact it was her more than he who seemed the most reluctant to desist from their embrace.

And so, like an eager confused puppy humping a stranger’s leg he had his first ejaculation in the presence of another human being rubbing up against Kate Lester in the pool.

Happily, although it was the first time, he was pleased that it was not to be the last time with Kate, in the pool or out of it.

So, wearing a rather smug expression Kate stayed close to him the rest of the day and afterwards he walked her home.

Ten years after that they were married and had a long and happy life together, but now she was gone and he was broken, but with the soothing therapeutic atmosphere created by Toddy and her team the spiritual peace of the Retreat would in time repair him.
